The Dangers Lurking in Your New Clothing

This past Friday the CBS Early Show had a segment about a Brazilian Hair straightening treatment that uses formaldehyde, a chemical known to cause cancer. The segment also mentioned some other ways we can be exposed to formaldehyde. One of these ways is in new clothing. Formaldehyde, best know for preserving dead animals, is used to the manufacturing process to preserve new clothes and keep them looking fresh. However, it can cause rashes and other adverse reactions (itch eyes, etc). So please wash your and your children clothes before wearing them.

Beans - A Health Finger Food for Your Self-Feeding Baby

As the parent of a self feeding one year old, I have been stuck in a rut regarding his food choices. While my baby can't complain, I think it would be benefical to add to variety to his limited diet of whole wheat pasta, frozen veggies (peas and carrots mostly), cheese, cheerios, and bananas. Glancing at one of my latest parenting magazines, I noticed beans (chick peas, edamame, black beans, etc) as a health finger food suggestion. Having limited exposure to eating beans it never occured to me to give beans to my children. Please feel free to comment on what healthy finger foods you give your children.

Anything But Savvy!

If you found out how much I spent last month on my credit cards I would have to admit I am anything but savvy. So my reason for creating this blog is to make me accountable for the decisions I make regarding parenting, family, health and fitness, style, finances, and much much more.
